Friends of the Florence Town Hall Annual Newsletter (March, 2015)

The Florence Town Hall is celebrating 140 years in 2015. The new roof and upgraded restroom are appreciated by everyone. Hopes are high for outside siding repair and paint to complete the restoration.

New in 2015, Florence Township History Center visitor hours will be held on the second Saturday every month from 10am-noon, at the time of Friends of the Town Hall monthly meetings. Having more volunteers in the building will facilitate more visitors. Space here limits the listing of the family histories, photos and gifts of historic significance donated to the History Center the past year. Visit the next History Fair and/or the History Center to view acquisitions and also share your family history.

Friends of the Florence Town Hall hosted History Fairs in April and October 2014. Township residents and family members have increasingly supported and contributed information at the Fairs. Programs included photo preservation and genealogy collection. The Webster Historic Frontenac DVD project was released in 2014. Friends thank William Webster for his generosity in donating some sale proceeds to Friends of the Town Hall. Frontenac Station, the Early Years by Sharon Nelson has been well received. Sharon is compiling more history soon to be published.

Friends are conducting a fund drive to purchase more pages for the display stand in the main hall. Operation Roundup and a memorial grant got the drive going. Friends have historic photos from the Revoir collection, the sale proceeds dedicated to this purpose. If a family wants to contribute to this project, contact Friends.

Gardening volunteers are again invited to help tend the flower garden on the 2nd Saturdays of May-October at 8 a.m. (or whenever you can get there).

You are welcome to visit and/or join Friends of the Florence Town Hall monthly meetings, 2nd Saturdays, 10 a.m.

Mark your calendar:   Spring History Fair, Saturday, April 25 1-4 p.m.
